Social Networks
Social Networks are now more popular than email. Consider the current stats for Facebook (May 2011*): More than 700 million active users, half of whom log on at least once a day. The average Facebook user has 130 “friends” and overall, users of the site spend over 500 billion minutes per month online!
Can you seriously afford not to be a part of this global phenomenon?

What is Social Networking?
The internet is filled with billions of users. ‘Social networking’ is a term used to describe the various websites that have emerged over the last few years, that function as online communities.
In these communities, members link to one another, usually to share common interests, website links, photos, news and other information. By connecting with each other, users’ news feeds offer viral marketing opportunities as shared information spreads quickly.
Social Networks are for kids aren’t they?
It’s a myth to think that social networks are not for business! Whilst many of the younger generation were certainly the early adopters, social networking has exploded in growth to encompass a range of audience demographics globally. Many of these social media platforms have been quick to exploit the advertising revenue potential by offering businesses powerful, targeted marketing opportunities.
There are a number of reasons why you need to engage with Social Networking:
Brand Awareness: Increased exposure to very large audiences.
PR & Marketing: Free platforms to publicise your recent successes, current sales and promotions, events and more!
Search Engines: social networking pages are indexed by search engines, meaning that this is another way to get listed in Search Engine Results Pages. Your profile information and links back to your website could increase your page ranking, and the traffic to your website.
Name Protection: register your brand presence before someone else does. Also, help other social network users to find you easily (especially if you have name competition);
Competition: are your competitors using Social Networking to gain the edge?
Why You Need Purple Dog
Social Networks, though powerful, can take up a lot time to manage. In fact, the more you engage with your audience, the more your audience will engage with you.
