I'm New Here - Where Do I Login?

It can be confusing when you first start out. Here we explain the different places you can login to get things done.

If you're a new Purple Dog customer - welcome!  It can be hard to know where to start. Here's a little starter guide that may help you understand where to go to get things done, whether you're wanting to pay your hosting bill, edit your website, read your email, or do just about anything associated with your web site & your account with Purple Dog.

There are generally speaking 3 or 4 places you can login - these are explained in more details below;

  1. The Purple Dog Client Area
  2. Website "Back end" area
  3. A webhosting Control Panel
  4. Email Login
  5. Newsletter Software login

1) Purple Dog CLIENT AREA - is Billing / Accounts related

The Purple Dog client area is where you manage your relationship with us, including all of the products and services that we provide to you.  You can access your Purple Dog account here: https://www.purpledogdesign.com/clients/login

You'll need your username and password to login.  The username is often your email address and the password would have been set up when you first registered with us - at which point we would have sent you a "welcome" email.  Check your email for a subject such as "Welcome to Purple Dog".

TIP: if you can't remember your password, use the "reset password" option on the login page.  You'll need access to your email - so if you've lost access to your email address, you'll need to open a ticket with us.

Once you've logged in you will be able to:

  • View and update your contact details, payment preferences, and any additional account information;
  • Review the products & services you are subscribed to, including any hosting and domain names;
  • Look at any current or upcoming bills and invoices;
  • Order new products and services, for example to order domain names or other services and products;
  • Cancel any services and / or close your account;
  • View details of current and historical emails, tickets, orders and invoices;
  • Submit and view new Support Tickets, including submitting sensitive information, such as passwords;
  • Look up all emails that have been sent to you from us (including all support queries, orders, invoices and receipts);
  • Manage Domain Name DNS nameserver settings;
  • And more!  The best way to find out is to login and look around!

2) Your website "back end" or "Admin section" - is PRODUCTION related

If you have a website - especially one that's designed by us - there's normally a place to login where you can update and edit content.  Usually we will provide this to you on completion of a site build or during training.  If you are not sure what the details are, please make contact with us via support.

As a general rule, a WordPress website login address will be something like www.example.com/wp-login.php (replace example.com with your domain name).

3) The Web Hosting Control Panel - is FUNCTIONAL related

Depending on the webhosting service we provide to you - you might have access to a web hosting control panel (not all services come with this option, so if yours does not, please ask us about an upgrade).

The hosting control panel allows you to deal with aspects of your web site e.g. databases, files and emails.

Some accounts that we provide will use an address similar to this: "http://www.example.com/cpanel" (replace example.com with your domain name).

PLEASE NOTE: accounts do not automatically have full access due to security restrictions that may be in operation to help protect users.  Please open a support ticket.

Web panel access requires a username and password - typically this is sent to you in a "Hosting Welcome" email when your hosting account was set up.  If you've forgotten this information or need a reset, please open a support ticket and we will send you a reminder.

Within your hosting panel, you can perform lots of useful tasks - depending on the kind of account you have;

  • Create / edit / delete email accounts, read your webmail, turn on / off spam-assassin, add email forwarders, auto responders, mx records and more
  • Edit, backup, change and upload website files. You can also control FTP access and create additional FTP accounts.
  • View your Web site Stats, visitor logs, error logs, and create custom error pages.
  • Set your site security, such as password protected directories, HotLink Protection and the IP Deny Manger.
  • Create parked domains, sub-domains and URL redirects.
  • Set up and manage information databases.
  • And much, much more.

The best thing to do is go an have a look around.  Most functions are appended with helpful hints.

4) Email Login

This one is a bit harder to give specific instruction for, because different customers choose different email service providers.  You can usually also access email either via a web browser, or via an email app / client.  In other words, where you login for your email will depend on what service you signed up for.  Generally, these will be one of the following, so take a look and see if you can remember which one you are using:

OneNet: Login to your Outlook Web App here: https://owa.onenet.co.nz - you will need your username and password.

Google Workspacehttps://accounts.google.com

Office 365 / Microsoft on the web:  https://outlook.live.com/owa

Purple Dog hosting webmailhttps://example.com/webmail - replace example.com with your domain name

If you are not sure, please open a ticket with us.

5) Purple Dog Newsletter Software

Do you use the Purple Dog newsletter software service?  You can log in to that here: https://newsletter.purpledogdesign.com/

In most cases, you should be able to login to the various services via the Purple Dog client account.

If you have any queries or need further help, please get in touch so that we can help you.
