Backups are an essential part of webhosting and we offer a range of options to suit your needs / budget. Whether you are worried about a cyber-attack, or concerned about what might happen to your website in the event of a hardware server failure, we have you covered.
All hosting accounts come with 7 days of daily backups. This means that we backup your website files, databases, emails and everything else in your webhosting account every day, for 7 days. These daily backups are held on a different physical server, at the same datacentre.
If you subscribe to Club Purple (or another specialised backup / maintenance plan), we also perform daily off-site backups of your database only (rotated every 7 days), and also monthly off-site backups of your database and website files (rotated monthly).
Generally, we are able to restore a site quite quickly once we are aware of an issue. Restoring a site from a backup is a process that involves over-writing the entire existing hosting account (database, website files and emails etc) with the last known good backed up copy.
It may also be possible to restore just the database (in case of corruption), and possibly even individual files (though this is chargeable work, unless we are at fault).
